Monty’s double: 23 November

Visiting judge Monty Trent provided an entertaining commentary on the images and clear reasons for his selections as he judged two print competitions on 23 November. In fact, he delivered Christmas early for Nick Hodgson, for Nick won both the competitions.

In the general colour competition Nick’s shot of a jet ski acrobat upside down had hearts beating faster, and he also took second place with a heavy impact scene from a women’s wrestling match. In calmer mood, Larry James took third place with an image of a mantis waving one of its sabre-like legs in pirate style. Marion Payne gained a highly commended award and commendations went to David James (two images), Richard Spurdens and Keith Allen.

In the Humanity competition it was Nick’s image of children playing on a beach that took first prize. Close behind was an enigmatic scene of a model with mannequins from Richard Spurdens and third place went to Larry James who portrayed a young goth lady’s reaction to being photographed. Highly commended awards went to Peter Wilson, Andy Thomas and Gillian Duckett. Commendations were awarded to Jacqui Foster, David James, Len Downes, Peter Wilson and Marion Payne.
