On Friday 16 February 2024, Ilkley Camera Club held a members night called Three of a Kind. The idea is for members to bring three pictures related to a theme of a particular subject. The competition encouraged wide participation from members who presented some highly personal and creative submissions. The subjects ranged from wild Camargue horses racing through the sea to a badly parked car in Ilkley. Astrophotography gave a glimpse of the Heart Nebula 7,500 light years away and there were some exquisite still life photos taken at home.
All the members present were invited to vote for their favourite three images and their favourite single image, and the results were as follows.
The favourite single image was awarded to Larry James for his picture of Starlings. In second place was Stu Thompson for a monochrome image of a leaf taken at Harlow Carr Gardens. In third place was Alison Tetley for a magnificent grey horse in the sea.
Members voted for the groups of three images: In first place was Stue Thompson with his images taken at Harlow Carr Gardens, in second place was Alison Tetley with her pictures of Camargue horses, and in third place was Larry James for his images of birds squabbling with each other. A number of people asked what kind of paper Stu’s images were printed on, the answer is Fotospeed Platinum Gloss ArtFibre300 paper.
