Opportunities for some classic cycle race shots and plenty of crowd reactions. High Batts Nature Reserve near Ripon
Birdlife, flowers and other natural history in a beautiful private nature reserve. We have an introduction from reserve staff then visit the hides. You need to book with Ilkley Camera Club for this event.

Life on John and Julia Horner’s Farm near Buckden
A chance to explore the fields, woods, deer park and moor, meet the sheep, cows, chickens and dogs, enjoy the flowers and capture the views at the top end of Wharfedale. You need to book for this event as we may re-schedule it to 23 or 24 May if the weather forecast is unsuitable.

Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds

A chance to photo a morpho peleides and a heliconius melpomene and 120 other species. Long lenses useful but a macro would also be good if we can get really close. Meet the reptiles and meerkats too.

The iconic locomotive hauls a train from York via Settle to Carlisle and return. Club member and railway enthusiast John Slack says it is best to avoid obvious, easy locations like Skipton, Hellifield and Settle and offers his personal recommendations.

Great Yorkshire Show, Harrogate
The largest agricultural show in England. View the beautifully turned out farm animals, horses and machinery. Capture the competitions, and much more. Meet Gillian Duckett for tips on action photography as we watch the horse-riding. The show runs from 10 to 12 July.

Dog Agility at Silsden
And owner agility too. Come and see our own Larry James put Billy through the course. Larry will try to break off to give advice. Long lens 300mm and above for jumps etc. Shorter lens for portraits away from the course itself.

Historic Vehicle Rally at Newby Hall near Ripon
Newby Hall will be surrounded by vintage and classic cars, for the North’s biggest one-day car show. Up to 1500 cars of all makes, from Aston Martin to Wolseley will be polished up by their proud owners.

Church Architecture and Stained Glass at Baldersby St James near Thirsk
A chance to photograph this beautifully ornate church with magnificent stained glass windows and interesting stonework. Tripods desirable plus flash and a range of focal lengths. Peter Farmer will be on hand with suggestions for getting the best from your visit and some flood-lighting. Booking required.

Tough Mudder Yorkshire at Broughton Hall near Skipton
A few thousand mudders (including our own Nick Hodgson on the Sunday), 10 miles and 20 plus obstacles, lots of mud, and all in an otherwise very beautiful location. A recipe for photographic fun. A monopod may help with the camera and your own stability. Longish lenses will save you getting uncomfortably close to the action whilst isolating individuals in the mud, water etc. Wider angle for portraits and some of the larger obstacles. Protect your camera.
Any time during August
Take six photos of drainpipes at times and places to suit you. The more unusual, ornate, colourful or decrepit the better (the drainpipes, that is, not you!). Load you images as for competition PDIs by 7 September and we’ll make a selection to show on the club website.

Top of the Locks at Bingley Five Rise
A visit to one of the marvels of the canal system. See boats going through the famous five staircase locks. A mile downstream from the Five Rise are the Three Rise Locks.

Saddleworth Rushcart in Delph
The rushcart arrives, with jockey on top. Many Morris sides show off their dancing. Plenty of activity and colour.

Harley Davidson event in Baildon
Immaculate paintwork and shiny chrome on view. The annual Harley Davidson Charity Ride-Out leaves the centre of Baildon.
