The Club’s two-yearly Exhibition opened at Cliffe Castle Museum on Saturday 29 April. Visitors have been enjoying 120 stunning photographs: the work of one of the top rated camera clubs in Yorkshire. Admission is free.
Truth or fake?
Part of the exhibition features photographs submitted for the Club’s
Can You Believe Your Eyes? Competition. This was inspired by the famous Cottingley fairies hoax perpetrated by two young girls.
Can visitors spot which images in the exhibition are genuine and which are fakes created by the photographer? Here is an example by Sharon Sawyer. Is it a fake, and, if so, can you work out how she achieved it?
Great range of photography
There is also general photography by Club members including landscapes, portraits, nature photographs, architecture and travel, such as the steamy image shown above, taken by Geoff Smith.
The public can vote for their favourite images in the Exhibition and enter a draw for a £20 voucher to use at Annings Camera Shop in Ilkley.
On 29 April there was a reception to which members and the public were invited. Alan Stopher, President of the Yorkshire Photographic Union, formally opened the Exhibition and declared Ilkley Camera Club to be one of the top photography clubs in Yorkshire. He commended the high quality of the images on show.
The Exhibition runs to Sunday 16 July. Opening times: Tuesday to Friday 10am – 4pm; Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays 11am – 4pm. Closed Mondays except Bank Holidays.
On eight Saturdays during the Exhibition there will be free talks on photography and how to improve your camera skills: 6, 20 and 27 May, 3, 17 and 24 June, and 1 and 15 July. These run from 11.30am to about 1pm in the Education Room. Some sessions will be pitched at relatively inexperienced photographers while others will be directed at advanced digital workers. Book places with the Museum on 01535 618231.
